Electricity
Redding Electric Utility (REU) provides electricity. As a municipal provider, the REU is equipped to offer industrial rates 30%-40% lower than investor-owned utilities in California.

Average Electric Utility Costs
Electricity costs vary by business size.  Redding Electric Utility offers some of the lowest electric rates in the State of California.  Examples of the service offerings for two distinctly sized commercial customers are presented below:

REU Resource Mix




Redding Electric Utility (REU) utilizes many sources of power supply to serve the City of Redding, including a mix of local generation, out-of-state generation, as well as traditional long-term power supply contracts.  REU strives to diversify its power supply fuel sources in order to minimize the risks associated with any one source of power.  Over the past several years, renewable energy has moved to the forefront of power supply development, especially in California.  In response to this growing trend, REU has signed two long-term renewable energy agreements for wind and biomass energy.  Further, REU holds a long-term agreement to purchase clean, renewable hydroelectric energy from the federal Central Valley Project.  The following figure depicts REU’s projected power supply portfolio for 2009:


Electric Index Information

The following information is based on 2007 data collected by Redding Electric Utility.  These numbers represent a five-year average (2003-2007).

System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI)

  • REU had 48.9 outage minutes per year, including major outages. 
  • Excluding major outages, REU’s average over five years is 27.538 minutes.

System Average Interruption Frequency Index (SAIFI)

  • REU experienced 0.344 events or outages over the five-year reporting time, including major events/outages.
  • Without major events, REU had 0.292 outages.

Momentary Average Interruption Frequency Index (MAIFI)

  • REU experienced 0.47 momentary outages, including major events.
  • Without major events, REU experienced 0.404 momentary outages.

Natural Gas
Natural gas service provided by Pacific Gas and Electric.

Telecommunications
AT&T provides fiber optic service to the park. Although Phase I construction does not provide immediately for redundancy, there will be provision for future improvements as the project develops.  AT&T and the City of Redding will work with customers on a case-by-case basis to look at alternatives for their fiber optic requirements.
 
Water, Wastewater, Solid Waste
The Redding Municipal Utility (RMU) operates water, wastewater and solid waste divisions, as well as a storm drain utility.
